Useful Geometry / Policies

Project terms.

Version 1.0 · Effective at public launch

The working policies that apply when we agree to a project in writing.

01

Quotes, scope, and acceptance

Ordinary initial discussions and quotes are free. If meaningful CAD, reverse engineering, measurement work, or prototyping is needed simply to scope a project, Useful Geometry will identify that work as paid before beginning it.

A project is authorized only when Useful Geometry provides a written quote or scope and the customer expressly accepts it in writing. Email acceptance is sufficient for electronic projects. Material changes may require a revised quote, price, or estimated schedule. Quotes are normally valid for 30 days.

Each accepted quote should identify the applicable Project Terms version. Later online changes apply to future projects unless both parties agree otherwise.

02

Pricing and payment

Custom CAD and design projects ordinarily require a 50% advance. Small or simple print-only jobs may be payable at completion. Unusual project-specific materials or nonrecoverable costs may be required up front when identified in the quote.

Remaining balances are due before physical handoff, shipment, or release of final paid CAD deliverables unless the quote states another milestone. Applicable taxes are charged as required by law. Payment methods are stated in the quote or invoice.

03

Revisions and prototypes

A normal custom CAD quote ordinarily includes the initial design and one reasonable customer revision round. Additional revision rounds or material requirement changes may be separately quoted. Corrections needed because Useful Geometry did not follow the agreed scope do not use the customer’s revision allowance.

Prototype prints are included only when the quote says they are included. Additional prototypes may be charged for changed requirements, incorrect customer measurements, requested alternative concepts, or remote fit uncertainty. Useful Geometry bears reasonable corrective cost for a prototype needed because of a Useful Geometry design or manufacturing error.

04

Customer information and fit

Customers are responsible for providing reasonably accurate and complete dimensions, photographs, sketches, intended-use information, compatibility details, mating-part details, environmental conditions, and relevant loads, temperatures, chemicals, outdoor exposure, or other constraints.

Useful Geometry will flag obvious contradictions or missing critical information and ask reasonable clarification questions. Useful Geometry can make its strongest fit commitment when it can physically receive or test against the relevant mating part. When working only from supplied information, Useful Geometry follows the agreed information but cannot guarantee unknown or inaccessible mating geometry. Material fit uncertainty may be handled as a prototype or validation process.

Original or broken parts may be provided for measurement or test-fitting by arrangement.

05

CAD and intellectual property

Customer-supplied material remains the customer’s or applicable owner’s material. The customer gives Useful Geometry only the permission reasonably needed to evaluate, quote, perform, document, and support the project.

Unless a quote says otherwise, Useful Geometry retains its protectable rights in CAD, documentation, and design work it creates. Buying a printed part does not automatically include a digital model. A CAD project includes only the digital deliverables listed in the quote; native or parametric source files are not automatically included and may be quoted separately.

When a customer purchases a CAD deliverable, the default license permits permanent personal or internal-business use, replacement prints, another manufacturer producing copies for that use, and modification of the delivered copy for that use. It does not include resale of the digital design, a resale product line, exclusivity, or assignment of all underlying rights unless separately agreed in writing.

Useful Geometry may retain general know-how, workflows, generic templates, standard features, parametric techniques, and independently developed similar concepts. Useful Geometry will not intentionally publish, sell, or distribute an exact customer-specific design as a stock design without permission.

06

Confidentiality and supplied models

Useful Geometry will ask permission before using recognizable customer-specific work, customer files, supplied photographs, or customer identity in a public portfolio or case study. Useful Geometry does not automatically enter into a formal NDA for ordinary projects, but treats nonpublic project material responsibly and does not intentionally publish it without permission. Customers with trade secrets or highly confidential information should raise that need before sending sensitive material.

A customer supplying an STL, CAD file, logo, drawing, or other third-party material represents that they have permission to use it for the requested project. Useful Geometry may request evidence of permission or refuse work that appears infringing, counterfeit, unauthorized, or otherwise questionable.

07

Projects Useful Geometry will not knowingly accept

Useful Geometry will not knowingly design or manufacture functional weapons or weapon components; firearm, suppressor, or ammunition-related functional components; life-safety, climbing, lifting, hoisting, fall-protection, or personal-support parts; medical or critical medical components; safety-critical vehicle components; mains-voltage electrical-safety components; certified protective or fire-safety components; pressure-containing safety components; or other parts whose failure could reasonably cause serious injury, death, fire, or major property damage.

Useful Geometry may also refuse work when the material or process is unsuitable, responsible tolerances or performance cannot be achieved, legality or ownership is uncertain, safety implications are unclear, capacity is unsuitable, or unsupported guarantees are requested.

08

FDM materials and limitations

Critical dimensions, tolerances, fit criteria, and validation methods are agreed project by project; Useful Geometry does not publish a universal tolerance. Normal FDM characteristics can include layer lines, seams, support-contact evidence, minor surface or dimensional variation, slight variation among separate prints, and reasonable color or finish variation. These normal characteristics are not automatically defects.

PLA and other FDM materials can be affected by heat, sunlight, weather, chemicals, load, impact, geometry, print orientation, and layer direction. Useful Geometry does not provide a general structural-performance guarantee. Poor workmanship or failure to meet an expressly agreed requirement remains Useful Geometry’s responsibility.

09

Installed use and prototypes

Customers are responsible for correct installation, use within disclosed and agreed conditions, integration with systems Useful Geometry cannot inspect, and stopping use if damage or unsafe behavior appears. Customer installation does not excuse a Useful Geometry design or manufacturing error.

A prototype is for evaluating agreed geometry, fit, ergonomics, or function. It is not automatically production-qualified, structurally rated, certified, fatigue-tested, safety-critical, or validated outside agreed test conditions.

10

Turnaround and cancellation

Quoted dates are good-faith estimates unless Useful Geometry expressly guarantees a date in writing. Estimates may change with approvals, missing information, revisions, prototype iterations, printer failure, reprints, material availability, difficult geometry, and other reasonable events outside Useful Geometry’s control. Useful Geometry should communicate meaningful delays and updated estimates.

Before substantive work or nonrecoverable costs begin, cancellation ordinarily results in a full advance refund. After work begins, Useful Geometry may retain or charge for completed work, consumed materials, completed production, and committed project-specific costs; unused portions of an advance are refunded. No separate punitive cancellation fee is adopted. If Useful Geometry cancels for its own reason, unearned amounts are refunded.

11

Remakes and refunds

If Useful Geometry materially fails to meet an expressly agreed design, quantity, material, dimension, or other requirement because of a Useful Geometry error, Useful Geometry should first have a reasonable opportunity to correct, remake, or replace the affected deliverable. If a reasonable cure does not resolve the problem, Useful Geometry refunds the amount paid for that affected deliverable.

Free remake or refund treatment does not ordinarily apply to incorrect customer measurements, changed requirements, a changed mind, normal agreed FDM characteristics, undisclosed conditions, withheld application information, or post-delivery damage or misuse. Customers should report concerns within a reasonable time and provide information needed to evaluate them.

12

Pickup and shipping

Local pickup may be offered by arrangement; Useful Geometry does not publish a walk-in location. Domestic shipping may be offered case by case. International shipping is not offered at launch, and shipping charges are identified separately when applicable.

Tracked shipment is the default where practical. Useful Geometry remains the customer’s point of contact for loss or damage before confirmed delivery. After confirmed delivery to the correct customer-supplied address, ordinary post-delivery theft or loss is not automatically Useful Geometry’s responsibility. Customers should promptly report transit damage and retain packaging or photos when useful.

13

Liability and disputes

Useful Geometry remains responsible for the obligations it actually agrees to perform, but does not promise suitability for uses or conditions not disclosed and agreed. Where legally permitted, ordinary remedies for a Useful Geometry-caused defect center on correction, remake, replacement, or refund of the affected project; ordinary economic liability is generally limited to the amount paid for the affected project. This does not waive rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be waived.

Virginia law governs subject to applicable non-waivable law. Before pursuing an ordinary dispute, each party should send written notice and allow about 30 days for good-faith informal resolution, except where urgent relief or a legal deadline requires faster action. Mandatory arbitration is not adopted at launch; appropriate Virginia courts remain available under applicable venue rules.

14

Changes to these terms

Useful Geometry may update these Project Terms for future projects. A later version does not change an already accepted project unless both parties agree in writing.
